For
the first time since we have lived on the coast, we are getting a real
Maine winter complete with record amounts of snow. It is truly
beautiful to look
We are involved in two off-season projects this year. Larry and our friend and wonderful carpenter, Jim Roberge, braved some cold and snowy days while completely rebuilding the main entrance and dining room porches at the front of the house. Pictures of our home show that when the house was built in 1878 the two porches were connected. We decided to join the porches and now guests can walk from one to the other. The front porch gets the morning sun making it a great place to sit in the summer and enjoy that first cup of coffee. We have decided to install air conditioners in the guest rooms. The afternoon sea breeze usually keeps things cool even on the hottest days. However, this was not always the case last summer when for a short period, we experienced some of the warmest temperatures the Boothbay area has ever seen. Each guest room will have a wall unit air conditioner. We feel it will make our guests more comfortable just knowing that air conditioning is available if they need it on a hot summer night. NEW FEATURES Mary Sue Weeks of Decorative Illusions recently completed decorative stenciling in the bath of Rhapsody in Blue. It is beautiful and we are thrilled with the new look that our guests will surely enjoy. In the three guest rooms upstairs we have replaced the clothes racks with wardrobes or armoires. This will give guests more space to hang clothes and will be much more convenient for everyone. In the five years that we have lived in Boothbay, we’ve come to appreciate the spirit of the community and why this peninsula is a special place to live. Larry is an active volunteer with our local land trust, helping with the clearing of trails and serving as steward for Linekin Preserve, which is located just across the street from the B&B. He is on the board of our historical society and was treasurer of the “Light It Up” committee, a group that raised money and installed lights at our community athletic field for night games. On January 1st he took part in the YMCA Penguin Plunge running into the 41 degree water at Grimes Cove (and out just as quickly). Larry proudly turned in over $200 he raised from sponsors.
Again this
year we are proud to announce our “Romantic Getaway Package.” This
special, which runs from January until the end of April,
If you are interested in owning an oil or watercolor painting from one of the area’s fine galleries, Corinne McIntyre is offering our guests 10% off a painting or print. Corinne’s Ocean Point Studio/Visions of Maine is located on Van Horn Road in East Boothbay. Corinne is pleased to announce that hand carved pottery by Fred McIntyre is now available at the studio. The best
part of this “Romantic Getaway Recently our most frequent guests, Steve and Daureen Sozanski, let us know that they would be our neighbors as they have purchased a beautiful Victorian home on Ocean Point Road overlooking Mill Pond and Linekin Bay. We’re very happy for them and their daughter, Heather, and welcome them to East Boothbay. This

WINTER ISSUE RECIPE This recipe came about by combining the best of two other French Toast dishes.
Mix cream cheese and raspberry preserve with electric mixer until creamy. Spread this mixture over 6 slices then place other 6 slices making sandwiches. Place in greased 9X13 baking dish. Combine eggs, milk, & vanilla and blend together. Pour over sandwiches. Cover and place in fridge overnight. Bake at 350 for 35-40 minutes or until the top starts to get crispy. Raspberry Sauce
Combine sugar & corn starch, add water, bring to a boil-stirring constantly. Stir in raspberries, lemon juice and butter and bring to a boil. Spoon over French Toast.
On Labor Day weekend we celebrated our fourth year as innkeepers. It was wonderful to greet returning guests and to meet new people who came to enjoy the beauty of the Maine coast. We thank all of you who have stayed with us and we look forward to future visits |
