Getaway Weekend Special

We are pleased to announce our “Romantic Getaway Weekend Package.” This special which runs from January until Memorial Day Weekend includes a two night stay and:

A bottle of sparkling cider and cheese and crackers will greet you when you check into your room, which features a fireplace and spectacular view of Linekin Bay. Later, after you have settled in and the stress of your week starts to peel away, come into our dining room where a candle lit table and a delicious dinner are waiting.

The menu will vary from fresh fish chowder to pasta dishes and warm breads. Save room for one of our homemade desserts. Before retiring to your room, how about challenging your partner to one of the many board games available in the common room.

One of the best things about East Boothbay is Ocean Point.

Many people start their day with a walk or jog along the twisting road to see the sunrise, listen to the fog horn on Ram Island, and watch a lobster boat head out to sea. Evening brings its own beauty of a sunset, which words alone cannot describe. You really have to experience the sun glistening off the water where on some days it looks like the sky is on fire.

This brings us to another part of your package. You will receive a coupon for two subs, two sodas or bottles of water and complimentary pastries from the historic East Boothbay General Store. Take this picnic to Ocean Point where you can sit on the rocks and enjoy the view. Marsh & Tammy Irving have made a point of having The East Boothbay General Store known for its great subs, pastries, and wines.

Thinking about bringing a piece of the Maine coast back with you? How about an original watercolor from Linekin Bay B&B exhibiting watercolorist Richard Secor of School Street Gallery or a beautiful photograph by his wife Melissa Goodwin. Both of their works are on display at our inn. As part of your package, you will receive a coupon for 10% off the price of a painting or photograph at either our inn or The School Street Gallery.

You will also receive a 10% off coupon from Mack Bear Gallery and Unique Gift Shop. George & Susan Bear feature original lighthouse paintings, stained glass creations, lunarveres, kaleidoscopes, shellery, illuminates, and driftwood art. They are located one-half mile from our inn and will be open by appointment during the quiet season. Larry will be happy to make the call for you.

Ocean Point Studio/Visions of Maine located on Van Horn Road features oil and watercolor paintings. Owner Corrine McIntyre focuses her paintings on her unending inspiration, the coastal landscape that she loves so dearly and the grandeur, joy and contentment found in this unique magical place. She is offering our guests 10% off from January 1 to May 1.

So you say what is the cost for this “Romantic Getaway Package?” For The Holbrook Suite it is $220 and Rhapsody in Blue is $180 (plus 7% room & lodging tax).

1999 Year End Statistics

For those of you who enjoy this type of thing, here’s what happened at our B&B during the past year. We rented 522 rooms, served 1,052 breakfasts, and broke a lot of eggs.

We had eleven couples spend their honeymoons with us, while twenty celebrated anniversaries. Our guests came from all over the United States - 39 states and from all over the globe - England, Germany, Switzerland, Bermuda, & Canada. We had joggers, hikers, kayakers, cyclists, plus those who took the whole inn for a family get-together, weddings, and reunions. I even think some guests had a lobster or two.

ADULT EDUCATION COURSE

On Leap Year Day Tuesday Feb. 29, we will be hosting a Boothbay Region Adult Ed. course at our inn for people interested in learning about starting a bed & breakfast. Along with a tour, participants will learn how the former E. & E. Holbrook home and store built in 1878 became The Linekin Bay Bed & Breakfast in 1998.

Larry & Marti will answer the question “Is running an inn the way we remembered it from The Bob Newhart show, or is there a bit more work? While they answer this question, guests will be sampling our homemade desserts. Don’t worry if you can’t make the course, as we will be more than happy to give you a tour and save one of our homemade desserts just for you.

LAND TRUST UPDATE

One of the jewels of our peninsula is the properties of The Boothbay Region Land Trust. We always enjoy being able to take our two Shelties for a walk at one of the six properties, all of which have great water views.

A recently completed 93-foot wooden span footbridge arches over the salt marsh between the Ovens Mouth Preserve. It was quite a project because after the concrete abutments were complete, the beams were brought by special barge to the area. On the high tide, the barge was floated over the old ice dam and onto location. As the tide went out the beams settled onto concrete abutments for what the contractor described as “a perfect fit.”

The completed span is so picturesque that it has been compared to a Monet painting. A formal dedication with Gov. Angus King is planned later in the year. In the meantime hikers who wish to explore both of the Ovens Mouth properties are enjoying the footbridge.

RECIPE

Warm Spice Fruit Dish

With the coming of winter, when warm foods act in a dual capacity, I serve a warm spice fruit dish. It also works well because with the exception of apples, you use canned fruit, which is not as costly as fresh fruit at this time of year.

Ingredients:

  • 1 -16 oz. can sliced peaches
  • 1 -15 oz can pineapple chunks
  • 1 -16 oz. can sliced pears
  • 1 -17 oz. can apricot halves
  • 2 -Granny Smith apples, cored, peeled, & sliced
  • 1 -stick butter or margarine melted
  • ¾ cup brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. ground cloves
  • 1 tsp. nutmeg

Topping:

  • ¼ cup chopped nuts
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1/3 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • ¼ cup butter or margarine melted

Drain and combine the canned and fresh fruits. Melt the butter and add the brown sugar and spices. Stir into the fruits. Place in a 9 by 13 glass pan. Next, for topping mix all ingredients together with the melted butter or margarine. Sprinkle over the fruit. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Serve warm by itself or top with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. This is one of those recipes, which makes the kitchen smell great!
