A Fabulous Summer

Our first full season went beyond our wildest expectations! Thanks to referrals from other bed and breakfasts in the area, our web page, the local chambers, referrals from guests, and Mother Nature who blessed us with a great summer, our occupancy rate was over 80%. Pretty good for a new business in its first full year.

In fact as the season went on many of the calls we received requesting information on availability unfortunately went like this, "I'm sorry, but we're full on those dates." Some of our guests have already booked their dates for next year so that they can be assured of getting the room they want.

Renovations and Changes at the Inn

In order to encourage guests to come and enjoy our bed & breakfast in the "Quiet Season" we have added two fireplaces.

One is in the Common Room and the other is in our guestroom, "Rhapsody in Blue." It just makes everything so cozy when you snuggle up with a glass of wine (or beverage of your choice) and a loved one in front of a fire.

Can't talk that spouse or significant other into getting away for the weekend, but you still want to enjoy all the hospitality of our B&B, the fireplaces, and beautiful views of Linekin Bay? Why not consider coming by yourself with a good book?

Harbor Lights Festival is a day and night full of activities from Christmas caroling, and Santa coming in on a lobster boat, to the parade of decorated, lighted boats in Boothbay Harbor.
Both events are well worth a trip to the Boothbay Region and what better way to enjoy them than with a stay at The Linekin Bay Bed & Breakfast

Cubby and Kelly Special

Cubby and Kelly, our two Shelties, are lonely. During the summer they were kept busy greeting guests and welcoming them to The Linekin Bay Bed & Breakfast. Now that we are in the "quiet season," they don't have as many guests to greet.

Cubby & Kelly

To help them keep in shape for next season, we are offering "The Cubby & Kelly Special" where if you book a Saturday night and then add either a Friday or Sunday, the second night is half price. So, when you call, please remember to mention The Cubby and Kelly Special. This special runs from November until March.

"LONESOME" the movie

There was a lot of excitement at our B&B on Friday September 10th when a German-American production company filmed a scene for the movie "Lonesome." The crew set up equipment in The Holbrook Suite to film the scene and they also utilized the side porch, common and dinning rooms. Two of our guests, an English couple from the Bahamas, were filmed as they were enjoying their afternoon tea on the front porch. It was a memorable trip to Maine for this couple as they became engaged and made an appearance in a movie!

"Lonesome" is the story of a young girl from a wealthy family who runs away from home and meets a cowboy who picks her up hitchhiking. The parents can't accept that their daughter would run away, so they report that she has been kidnapped. The mother, played by French actress Marisa Berenson, who has appeared in "Cabaret" and Clint Eastwood's "White Thunder," tries to track down her daughter.

As this film crew is on a low budget, they didn't have any funds for compensation. This was fine with us as it was exciting to have the scene filmed here, plus it felt good to be able to help them out. We will receive recognition during the movie credits, along with a video of the movie and tickets to the Maine premier.

The complete story, which appeared in The Boothbay Register along with photographs, is included on our web site.

Honeymoon and Anniversary Celebrations

Love was definitely in the air at our inn this past season. Seven couples spent their honeymoons here and at last count sixteen couples have celebrated anniversaries.
The millennium appears bright as two honeymoon couples are returning to our inn to celebrate their first anniversaries and one couple has reserved three nights for their 46th anniversary.

Special Arrangements

Please keep in mind that we would be happy to make any arrangements you request to make your stay at our inn special. Over the past season we have provided special baskets filled with champagne or wine, fruit, chocolate, cheese/crackers and freshly baked goods, which guests have requested. For the anniversary couple, we can order flowers to have in your room on your arrival. Just give us a couple of days notice and your request will be waiting when you arrive.

Recipes

During the season we have had requests for recipes of our breakfast offerings. Larry is always happy to share any of these. So, a regular section of our newsletter will be to print one of these. "Peach Linekin" is the feature for this edition of Ebb Tidings.

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups skim milk
  • 2 tablespoons vanilla
  • 4 eggs-slightly beaten
  • 5 cups quick-cooking rolled oats
  • 1 1/2 cups firmly packed brown sugar
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 3 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. Salt (if desired)
  • 1/4 CUP margarine or butter melted
  • 2 cups chopped, frozen unsweetened sliced peaches (canned peaches can be substituted as long as they are packed in unsweetened juice)

1) Spray 13 X 9 baking dish with nonstick cooking spray. In large bowl, combine milk, vanilla, eggs and blend well. Add oats, brown sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt, and mix well. Stir in margarine and peaches until well combined. Pour mixture into sprayed dish; cover and refrigerate at least 3 hours or overnight.

2) Heat oven to 350, uncover dish and bake 40-45 minutes or until slightly puffed and golden brown. Let stand 10 minutes before serving. Cut into squares; place in individual bowls. Optional - place fresh peaches around and yogurt or cream on top.
